4/28/2010: Senator Huntley Supports West Point Day

The Senate Democratic Majority honored officers and cadets from West Point Military Academy today, passing a resolution proclaiming April 28, 2010 as West Point Day in New York. Each year, the Senate commemorates the establishment of the United States Military Academy at West Point and recognizes the special relationship New York has with the academy.

The first West Point Day resolution was introduced in the Assembly by James T. McNamara fifty-eight years ago, initiating an important tradition of recognizing the proud history of the leadership and sacrifices of the members of the Long Grey Line. Located on a historic and scenic campus on the banks of the Hudson River, the Academy has been the premier leadership and higher learning institution in New York State, and the nation, for more than two centuries. As the oldest continually garrisoned army installation in the nation, West Point has produced greatly influential members of our state imbued with a profound commitment to duty, honor and service.

The Academy and its graduates have played a vital role in preserving the legacy of freedom and democratic principles of the United States and will continue to do so for generations to come.
