The U.S. Department of Education recently announced the winners of its Magnet Schools Assistance Program, including a group of eight Community School District 3 (D3) schools. This grant will be used to reduce minority isolation, foster innovative magnet school programs, enhance curriculums with an emphasis on marketable vocational, technological and professional skills and build on the successes of participating schools. My office had participated in a series of planning meetings that helped to shape the schools' applications for the grant. I congratulate these eight schools, particularly those that are in my Senate district: PS 87, PS 191 (to be renamed "the Museum Magnet School for Inquiry, Innovation and Imagination"), and West Prep Academy, and I look forward to continuing to support them as they grow. I especially thank Dr. Roser Salavert, the former D3 Superintendent, who spearheaded this effort.
