J. Leo Glynn has earned a place among New York State’s elite veterans with his honorable service in the U.S. Navy and his outstanding efforts to improve his community as a member of the American Legion.
Mr. Glynn, who served in the Navy from 1943-1946, is well known in his community for his volunteer efforts and his dedication to instilling strong values and ideals in younger generations. Mr. Glynn has personally assisted more than 500 young men through the American Legion’s Boy’s State Program, which teaches participants about the importance of civic responsibility and personal accountability. In his own words he describes the most rewarding facet of the program as, “the number of times that young men and their families have come to me to relate their accomplishments and the value they attribute to the Boy’s State experience.”
For Mr. Glynn’s outstanding beneficence to society, the American Legion has bestowed upon him the Citation of Honor, the National Achievement Award, the Americanism citation, as well as being chosen as the 1998 Orange County Legionnaire of the Year. He was also honored as the Grand Marshal of the Town of Newburgh’s Memorial Day Parade.
