'Jimmer Mania' Comes to New York's State Capitol

     State Senator Betty Little and Assemblywoman Teresa Sawyard welcome Brigham Young University basketball star and Glens Falls native Jimmer Fredette to the State Capitol in Albany on Friday, June 17, 2011.

     Jimmer is pictured in the New York State Senate Chamber holding a Legislative Resolution recognizing his outstanding basketball career at BYU and his exemplary character both on and off the basketball court.

     Jimmer was this year's NCAA top scorer, leading the BYU Cougars to a 30-4 regular season record, a number three seed in the NCAA tournament advacing to the third round "Sweet Sixteen."  His awards include the Naismeth Men's College Player of the Year, Chip Hilton Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches, Oscar Robertson Trophy, Associated Press Player of the Year, CBSSports.com National Player of the Year and Sporting News 2011 College Basketball Player of the Year. 

     Nominated as one of 10 players in the nation for the John R. Wooden Award All-American men's team, Jimmer Fredette captured the Award as college basketball's player of the year; he accepted the 35^th annual trophy from Jim Wooden, son of the late UCLA coaching great, during a ceremony at the Los Angeles Athletic Club; he is the first BYU player since Danny Ainge in 1981 to both win this trophy and be on the Associated Press All-American team.
