Senator Rivera visits High School of American Studies for a Discussion on Government and Civics

Senator Gustavo Rivera visited the High School of American Studies at Lehman College on Tuesday September 26th 2011. Senator Rivera was there to talk to High School Seniors in their U. S. Government and History classes about a variety of topics including the legislative process.
While visiting the High School of American Studies (HSAS), a public school that emphasizes the study of American history, Senator Rivera met with students to talk about the role of a State Senator and the different branches of government.
Senator Rivera will be teaching a four-week civics class starting October 13 and meeting every Thursday until November 3 at the Bronx Library Center at 310 E. Kingsbridge Road as a part of his ongoing campaign to promote civic engagement and participation in local and state politics. This visit was the first in a series of visits that the Senator will make to local high schools to talk to students about the importance of government and civic participation in their lives and to encourage them to attend his community civics classes.
