State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I – Shirley) recently attended the annual Remembrance Ceremony at the New York State Police Officers Memorial, located at the Empire State Plaza in Albany. Senator Zeldin (above left) is pictured here with Tracy Zane (above right) and her young daughter, whose husband, the late NYPD Officer Robert Anthony Zane, Jr. of Sayville, was added to the Memorial wall for his heroic efforts on 9/11.
The names of more of 1,115 officers are engraved on the Memorial wall. Among them are the names of 577 officers from the New York City Police Department. The remaining 538 officers are from 133 police agencies from around New York State. Names are placed randomly on the wall and without rank, an enduring symbol of the sacrifice and service of these brave men and women.
