Rally to Save Our Senior Centers
(D-Jamaica) Senator Shirley L. Huntley and several elected officials representing parts of Southeast Queens will rally with residents to stop the proposed closures of many Senior Centers in the community. The rally will demonstrate the communities resolve to fight against severe budget cuts that will negatively impact seniors. The Senior Centers that would face closure include Rochdale Village Senior Center, Brooks Senior Center, Howard Beach Senior Center, Forest Hills Community House Senior Center, and JSPOA Rockaway Boulevard Senior Center.
At a time when Senior Citizens are struggling through New York’s economic downturn, it is imperative that we keep Senior Centers open. These centers provide meals, social functions, educational and health programs, transportation, and a myriad of other recreational activities. Shutting down even one center can have debilitating effects to the seniors and community at large.
