Rent Control Expires June 15,2011

“As June 15th quickly approaches it is imperative that we assure millions of residents in New York City and the surrounding areas that rent protections laws will be expanded and improved. Residents in my 10th senatorial district in Queens have seen a decrease in affordable apartments available due to vacancy decontrol and have seen unconscionable rent increases when they have moved to a new building.

Passing rent regulation laws that provide families security and stability is vital to ensuring housing in New York City remains stable and affordable. The Assembly Majority has already passed this important measure yet the Senate Majority seems to be dragging its feet on whether or not they want people to afford a decent place to live“ said Senator Shirley L. Huntley.
