Capitol Students

Thomas F. O'Mara

April 13, 2011

Albany, N.Y., April 13—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) was joined at the Capitol this week by two area high school students who were among 30 students from across the state participating in the 11th Annual “Students Inside Albany” conference sponsored by the League of Women Voters of New York State (LOWV).

The conference took place from April 10-13.

In the photo, Senator O’Mara is shown on the dais in the historic New York State Senate chamber with Thomas Peer (l.) of Beaver Dams (Schuyler County), a junior at Bradford Central School, and Patrick LaBuff of Trumansburg (Tompkins County), a senior at Charles O. Dickerson High School.

Through the LOWV’s annual conference, select high school students spend several days in Albany learning about state government and politics.  Students also spend an afternoon “shadowing” their state representatives to get a firsthand look at New York’s legislative process.

“The League of Women Voters provides a great service by offering Patrick, Thomas and high school students from throughout New York a first-hand look at our legislative process,” Senator O'Mara said.  “It serves New York’s future well by helping to instill a stronger sense of public service among our young people and tomorrow’s leaders.”
