CONFIRMATION PROCESS--Senator O'Mara questions Joe Martens, Governor Andrew Cuomo's nominee to head the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), at a meeting of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee in early March. The full Senate confirmed Mr. Martens as DEC's new commissioner on March 9th.

The Senate Democrats are complicit with Governor Cuomo in what is being revealed as tragic, unforgivable, politically motivated and, in my view, criminal decisions during this COVID-19 pandemic that cost lives, devastated families, destroyed livelihoods and will keep this state at risk for years to come.

"Now is no time to ignore funding for critical public health responses. Thousands upon thousands of New Yorkers suffer from Lyme Disease annually, yet Governor Cuomo's proposed budget fails to offer a penny of funding to help combat the spread of this disease. That's unacceptable and this Legislature must act in the absence of executive leadership.
