Senator Betty Little is pictured with NYPA President and CEO Gil C. Quiniones on Wednesday, July 19 following a ribbon-cutting ceremony commemorating the successful reopening of North Country Dairy in North Lawrence.
Upstate Niagara Cooperative, the new owner and operator of the yogurt production plant, invested $11 million for the purchase of the facility and its refurbishing. The plant had been shuttered by its previous owner. Thanks to an allocation of low-cost hydropower from NYPA, as well as state and local government incentives, the plant is producing millions of pounds of yogurt from milk purchased from New York State dairy farms and has rehired 80 northern New Yorkers.
