Artist, mother, teacher, and community organizer are among the terms that describe Brooklyn resident Maggie Tobin. Very involved in the Kensington neighborhood, Maggie has recruited residents in the community for many beautification projects including clean up of litter filled areas, seed-bombing abandoned lots, painting murals to get the attention of absentee landlords and city officials, and spearheading many community building events including the Kensington World's Fair.
Maggie serves on Community Board 12 and is a delegate for Council Member Brad Lander's Participatory Budgeting Committee. She is the founder/president of the West Kensington Action Group, co-president of the Dahill Neighborhood Association, and a member of the Friends of Kensington Group.
As one neighbor put it, "This community greening advocate never says never, doesn't give up and thinks outside the box to get things done! Maggie has managed to bring a diverse group of Kensington residents together in our neighborhood, making it cleaner, greener and more livable."
