Senator Adams joined the Caucus in regards to Redistricting
Eric Adams
March 21, 2012
Senator Adams joined the Members of the New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislative Caucus to express their collective displeasure at the districts drawn by Senate Republicans. These lines crack and pack minorities with blatant disregard to communities of interest and in some instances county lines. The Caucus sees it as an unparalleled power grab by the Senate Republicans to maintain their current strong holds and dilute the power of minority communities. Although it has been the traditional practices to allow each house of the legislature to determine its own lines, standing idly by as these lines are proposed would be an injustice to their constituents. The Caucus has vowed to vote against the lines as they have currently been written for both the Assembly and Senate.
