I-STOP Press Conference
George D. Maziarz
June 18, 2012
On Saturday, June 9th, Senator Maziarz and his colleagues gathered at the Kids Escaping Drugs Headquarters in West Seneca to announce an agreement on the Internet System for Tracking Over-Prescribing Act. The Act, known as I-STOP, will create a “real time” database that physicians and pharmacists can securely access to view their patients controlled substance histories. The Act also creates a Safe Disposal Program to increase the options available to safely dispose of unused prescriptions drugs. The legislation was pushed by families throughout New York State who have lost a family member due to prescription drug abuse, including Avi & Julie Israel, whose son Michael lost his life to prescription drug abuse. The legislation is awaiting Governor Cuomo’s signature.
