A Statement on Veteran's Day
Gustavo Rivera
November 11, 2012
Dear Constituents,
In 1954, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued a proclamation designating November 11th as National Veteran’s Day. The country had come out of the Korean War and, as a country, we were looking for a way to honor those men who were coming home as well as those who had served in previous wars.
Our nation is, once again, welcoming soldiers home from war. The need to recognize and honor the men and women who have fought on behalf of our country is just as strong now as it was then. I want to take a moment today, on Veteran's day to honor all the men and women who have served and continue to serve in our armed forces, defending our freedom and bringing justice abroad.
Sincerely,
Gustavo Rivera
