Honorable Ann C. Crowell

The Honorable Ann C. Crowell made history in the November 2011 elections when she became the first woman to be elected to the New York Supreme Court in the eleven county Fourth Judicial District. She is particularly enjoying the experience of assisting attorneys and their clients in reaching settlements that save them from protracted litigation and the drain and expense of trial.

Justice Crowell’s interest in public service began as a law clerk in both the Schenectady County Public Defender’s Office and the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s office. Upon admission to the bar, she practiced in several area firms as a trial attorney focusing on personal injury litigation. Justice Crowell returned to the public sector in 1999 as deputy counsel to the New York State Division of Parole and served for nine years after that as confidential law clerk to Honorable Stephen A. Ferradino.

Throughout her legal career, Justice Crowell has been a committed volunteer. She was president of the Saratoga County Bar Association and a board member of both the Capital District and Adirondack Women’s bar associations. She is a graduate of Leadership Saratoga and the NYS Governor’s Leadership Program. Prior to her election to the Supreme Court, she was active in politics and worked on numerous campaigns. She is also a dedicated hospice volunteer.

Justice Crowell graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1979. She spent 10 years in sales and marketing management jobs at AT&T before attending Albany Law School, where she graduated cum laude in 1992.
