Senator Farley Salutes Schalmont Girls Soccer Team

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) had the pleasure of presenting the Schalmont Girls Soccer Team with a New York State Senate Resolution on January 31st for winning last fall's New York State Class B Championship. Present for the event at the Senate Chambers were Head Coach Angelo Caschera, Schalmont Athletic Director Joe Gallo, and players Karley Murray, Angelina Gazzillo, Katie Saccocio, Hannah Saccocio, Madeline Saccocio, Nicoletta Cuttita, Hailee Metzold, Rachael Gac, Jenna Saccocio, Ciara Vitallo, Megan Strijek, Amanda Mascitelli, Allie Gallo, Isabella Borini, Taylor Florio, Shanna Reagan, Alexandra Cardinal, Diana DiCocco, and Gabrielle Juers.

LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION Honoring the Schalmont Girls Soccer Team Upon Winning the New York State Class B Championship

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging the outstanding achievements of its student athletes; and

WHEREAS, The Schalmont Girls Soccer team exhibited remarkable athletic ability, inspirational sportsmanship, and extraordinary teamwork in winning the New York State Class B Championship; and

WHEREAS, The team, led by Head Coach Angelo Caschera and Assistant Coaches Alaina Lange and Karen Ryder, consists of Karley Murray, Angelina Gazzillo, Katie Saccocio, Hannah Saccocio, Madeline Saccocio, Nicoletta Cuttita, Hailee Metzold, Rachael Gac, Jenna Saccocio, Ciara Vitallo, Megan Strijek, Amanda Mascitelli, Allie Gallo, Isabella Borini, Taylor Florio, Shanna Reagan, Alexandra Cardinal, Diana DiCocco, and Gabrielle Juers; and

WHEREAS, The Sabres finished their season with an impressive 23-0 record; and

WHEREAS, The team scored 131 goals in those games, while allowing only seven goals; they shutout their opponents 17 times; and

WHEREAS, On November 19, 2011, the Sabres defeated defending champions Bronxville by a score of 4-0 in the semi-final; and

WHEREAS, The following day, they defeated Greece-Odyssey by a score of 4-0 at the Class B State Championships, held at Tompkins Cortland Community College; and

WHEREAS, Forward Megan Strijek was named one of the tournament's Most Outstanding Players and the Sabres were awarded the Sportsmanship Award,; and

WHEREAS, The team is an inspiration to student athletic teams across New York State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor the Schalmont Girls Soccer team upon winning the New York State Class B Championship; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the Schalmont Girls Soccer team.
