Jack M. Martins was back in Elmont visiting the Clara H. Carlson School to participate in a special "Reading 180" program that has been established in the Covert Avenue, Clara Carlson, Dutch Broadway, Stewart Manor, Gotham Avenue and Alden Terrace Schools. The program is funded through grant funding Senator Martins was able to channel to the Elmont School District. Superintendent Al Harper, Clara Carlson School Principal Ken Rosner and Assistant Supt. Barbara Schwarz briefed Senator Martins on the program that is an aggressive reading program developed by Scholastic. "The Reading 180 program is very impressive and is working in the Elmont School District. Our young people are learning and are building the skills they need to be a success in all of their school work," said Senator Martins. During Senator Martins' tour of the program, students showed him the computer modules and book work they were assigned during the session.
