Debra Brawley

Award: HONORING WOMEN IN NEW YORK

Year: 2012

Debra Brawley was born and raised in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. Upon graduation from high school, she attended Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island where she earned a degree in court reporting. Mrs. Brawley went on to work for more than 20 years for the New York City court system.

Mrs. Brawley’s love and devotion to nurturing children has lead her to envision and establish My Imagination Childcare Center, a center that provides quality service to children and their families. Under her leadership and foresight, My Imagination Childcare Center is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and empowering them to achieve their fullest potential. Mrs. Brawley encourages her teachers to engage all the senses during the educational process. She promotes literacy at the infant level and is a great advocate of using dramatization as a teaching tool.

As a woman, her quiet “I am” statement encourages women to explore all of whom God has created them to be. In keeping with the scripture that guides her, Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”, she encourages women to believe that they can do all things through Christ who strengthens them.

In October 2002, Mrs. Brawley married Reverend David K. Brawley, Senior Pastor of the Saint Paul Community Baptist Church. Mrs. Brawley brought two children, Rhonesha and Michael, to their union from a previous marriage. The couple resides in Crown Heights Brooklyn.
