Carol Meschkow is a dominant force on Long Island. Known for her diligence, she is the president and founder of Concerned Citizens of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Community, an environmental organization that formalizes and strengthens grassroots efforts to educate, cultivate and sustain community unity against environmental threats. Under Ms. Meschkow’s direction, Concerned Citizens have been active coalition members of several environmental initiatives for aquifer protection, energy efficiencies, and suburban quality-of-life issues, focusing on town-wide, county, regional and statewide initiatives.
In addition to her active involvement with Concerned Citizens, in an attempt to keep her neighborhood safe, she also envisioned and launched a “Neighbor-to-Neighbor Watch” program including signage, window decals, and an e-mail alert system.
Ms. Meschkow is currently employed as the Nassau Project Coordinator for the Tobacco Action Coalition of Long Island. Academically accomplished, she holds a Master‘s degree in public health administration, a teachers license as a health educator, and a real estate license, and she has worked in both public and private sector schools.
Ms. Meschkow, a quintessential volunteer, lends her time and talents to a variety of local community organizations, including the local district Parent Teacher Associations, the Plainview-Bethpage chapter of Lions Club International and other community and youth organizations. She serves as co-president of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Friends of the Library and is on its advisory board. She is a member of the local Chamber of Commerce; she represents the Town of Oyster Bay on the Republic Airport working group and is an appointee to the Visions 2020 and the EEC town commissions.
