Central Islip, N.Y. – State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley) was recognized by the Central Islip School District this past Saturday, April 28, 2012, for his efforts in securing $36.6 million in vital building aid in the 2012-13 State Budget, previously promised to the district.
Due to paperwork delays of a previous school district administration, the State Education Department had insisted Central Islip pay back almost $14 million in aid already received and spent, while also refusing to release approximately $28 million that Central Islip had expected going forward. Working closely with Superintendent Craig Carr, Assemblyman Phil Ramos (D- Central Islip), and Governor Andrew Cuomo, Senator Zeldin was able to secure an agreement to prevent this from happening.
