Hurricane Sandy is expected to make landfall this evening, with high winds continuing through the night. While New York City has already made preperations for the high winds and storm surges the hurricane will produce, families and individuals should also make preperations, keep informed and stay safe.
Sandy's heavy rains and extremely high winds pose very serious risks throughout Kings County. The potential for flooding, deadly storm surges, widespread power outages, and downed power lines is very real.
The New York State Division of Homeland Security is reccomending that everyone should move to, and remain in a place of safety. Ensure all windows and doors are secure, stay away from windows throughout the duration of the storm.
New York State Division of Homeland Security has also activated Hurrican Sandy Helpline. New York residents can call 1-888-769-7243 or 1-518-485-1159 for inquiries related to citizen preparedness information.
