Helping New York Recover in the Wake of Hurricane Sandy

As our City works to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, I want to thank the many residents of my district who have dedicated time and resources to help those in need – both in our neighborhoods and throughout the five boroughs.  Your efforts are inspiring and represent the spirit and compassion of our community.

I have been working with my colleagues at all levels of government to help coordinate recovery efforts throughout my district, and crucially, to ensure that nobody falls through the cracks.  Together, we focused all of our resources on this effort, from canvassing buildings affected by the storm in order to identify those in need to providing the homebound with food, water and medicine to working with City, State and Federal officials to direct emergency supplies where they are needed most, to helping our small businesses to access grants and loans.  I have been particularly concerned about residents in high-rise developments that lacked functioning elevators as well as power, heat and hot water and, in some cases, any running water at all.

I wish to especially thank U.S. Representatives Carolyn Maloney and Jerrold Nadler, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, New York State Senator Daniel Squadron, New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Councilmembers Margaret Chin, Dan Garodnick and Rosie Mendez, and New York State Assemblymembers Deborah Glick, Dick Gottfried, Brian Kavanagh and Linda Rosenthal for their phenomenal partnership and collaboration during this most trying time.
