Albany, N.Y., June 20—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) recently helped welcome former Syracuse University football legend and pro football Hall of Famer Floyd Little to the Senate Chamber.
O’Mara, a graduate of Syracuse University College of Law, joined his legislative colleagues to pay tribute to Little’s outstanding achievements in football, business and community service.
“As a longtime Syracuse sports fan and a football fan, it was a great thrill to have this opportunity to help welcome and pay tribute to Floyd Little, one of the greatest running backs in the history of the game,” said O’Mara. “After hanging up his cleats, Floyd Little has enjoyed an equally impressive and successful career in business and community service. He’s been a role model and a first-class citizen throughout his remarkable life.”
In 1963, Little decided to attend Syracuse University after being recruited by and to follow in the footsteps of his hero – Elmira native, Ernie Davis. At Syracuse, Little was a 3-time All-American and continues to hold Syracuse’s career record for touchdowns. He was drafted by the Denver Broncos in 1967 and was a 5-time Pro Bowl selection. He was inducted into the Professional Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio in 2010.
Since retiring from football, Little has enjoyed a highly successful and storied career in business and community service. He currently serves as the Special Assistant to the Athletic Director at SU.
