City of White Plains Annual Cherry Blossom Festival

Andrea Stewart-Cousins

April 29, 2013

Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins attended the Annual Cherry Blossom Festival on Sunday, April 28th at Turnure Park in White Plains, NY to celebrate a festival of Japanese culture and tradition. The cherry tree and its blossoms, known as sakura, is a symbol of life, death and rebirth in Japanese culture, which "represents the end of the winter season and the beginning of new life in spring as well as the ephemeral nature of all life". This special event was hosted by Mayor Thomas M. Roach, the White Plains Recreation & Parks Department and the Japan Education Center.
