On Friday, December 13th, the Lower Hudson Valley Council of School Superintendents hosted their annual legislative meeting to discuss education policy for the upcoming legislative year. As she does every year, Senator Stewart-Cousins participated in the meeting. Two of the main topics of concern shared by the Superintendents were the implementation of the Common Core Standards and the sharing of student data with third parties. Senator Stewart-Cousins explained that she supports a slower phase-in of the Common Core implementation, and also supports allowing parents to opt-out of having their student's data shared with third parties.
