October 5, 2013
For her leadership in promoting minority and women owned businesses, Senator Stewart-Cousins was recognized with two separate awards this October. On October 3rd at the 3rd Annual New York State MWBE Forum in Albany, Leader Stewart-Cousins was honored by Governor Andrew Cuomo with a certificate presented to her by Mylan Denerstein, Counsel to the Governor. Two weeks later, the African American Chamber of Commerce of Westchester and Rockland honored the Senator with their Political Leader of the Year award for her leadership and support of MWBEs. In a statement, Senator Stewart-Cousins said, “Since the 2007 disparity study, New York State has made long-overdue progress in promoting MWBEs and increasing their participation in State projects. The key now is to continue the upward trend and resist efforts to halt progress. The Senate Democratic Conference has made this a priority, and as Leader, I will continue to fight for minority and women owned businesses and create jobs.”
