Announcing Free WiFi Initiative in Chelsea
Brad Hoylman
January 8, 2013
On January 8, I was delighted to stand with Google Chief Information Officer Ben Fried, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Hudson Guild Executive Director Ken Jockers, Chelsea Improvement Company (CIC) President Dan Biederman, CB4 Chair Corey Johnson, Fulton Houses President Miguel Acevedo and others to announce that Google and CIC are providing free WiFi to a dozen square blocks in southern Chelsea. The coverage area includes the Fulton Senior Center and its courtyard, the Chelsea Triangle, 14th Street Park and Gansevoort Plaza. I am grateful to CIC for funding this initiative and to Google for handling the technical operation. My Senate district includes much of our City’s “Silicon Alley” and I strongly support tech companies with bases here as engines of our city's growing knowledge-based economy.
