Promoting Safe Asbestos Removal at PS 63/363

I have been working with New York City Councilmember Rosie Mendez, other local elected officials, the PS 63 and PS 363 school communities, and CB3 to address concerns about the New York City Department of Education (DOE) and School Construction Authority's (SCA) asbestos removal construction project scheduled to start on Friday, November 1 at the school building at 121 East 3rd Street. I am pleased that DOE and SCA have been in talks with the School Leadership Teams and other stakeholders about ensuring high air quality standards and safe asbestos removal, relocating affected programs in the building to other spaces, relocating the playground space that will be lost to the project, and promoting an open dialogue between the DOE/SCA, parents, elected officials and the community. I will continue to work with all affected parties towards ensuring the PS 63/363 building remains safe for the school and local community.
