Senator Young attended the Houghton Volunteer Fire Department Dinner to help honor David Ries, an ambulance driver who will be retiring at the end of the year after 18 years of service. David Ries is pictured in the center, with Fire Chief Dave Edwards joining him and Senator Young.
David joined the Houghton Volunteer Fire Department in December 1995 as an ambulance driver. He has driven many thousands of miles while responding to more than 1,400 calls and has given approximately 3,500 hours of his own time in service to others in his vital role.
Throughout his time serving the community, David has shared his experience and knowledge with others and has been instrumental in training at least 12 new ambulance drivers. He previously was honored by his peers as the 2008-2009 EMS Person of the Year.
Congratulations to David and thank you so much for your service!
