Recently, Senator Young stopped by a birthday party for George Hall of Allegany, who just turned 105 years young! It’s amazing the number of historical events that have happened during George’s life.

George was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 15, 1908 to Albert and Della May Hall and has lived in Allegany since he was one year old. He married his late wife Luella in 1932 and the couple enjoyed traveling together throughout the United States and Canada.

After working on a farm a year after being married, George began a new job with the WPA works project in Allegany State Park. He later worked at his uncle’s lumber business.

George’s longest-held job was with the Van Der Horst Corporation in Olean. During World War II, he often worked seven days a week to support the war effort by providing chrome plating for guns. He retired from the job in 1972 after working there for more than 28 years.

An active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Allegany, George has attended the church since the age of five and he spent many years serving as a handyman for the church.

George continues to live in his own home in Allegany, cooking meals and even mowing his lawn. He enjoys watching sports on television and is an avid reader.

Senator Young was thrilled she could be there to help celebrate this milestone day.
