Award: Constituent of the Month
Tinneesia White-Flores is a 10th grader at Achievement First Brooklyn High School and has been a Girl Scout for approximately 7 years. She is currently a senior Girl Scout at St. Marks Church/Day School, Troop 2679, in Crown Heights, and she enjoys the many outreach and educational programs it offers.
Tinneesia has earned numerous awards and badges that have helped her build courage, confidence and character. In June 2011, she received her Silver Award from the Girl Scout Council of Greater New York – the highest award a Cadette girl scout can achieve. Her greatest achievement in Girl Scouting came in June 2012, when she earned her Gold Award – the highest award in Girl Scouting. This achievement gave her the opportunity to join 24 other Girl Scouts from the City to kick off the Macy’s 180th Thanksgiving Day Parade.
“Being a Girl Scout, I have learned to discover, connect and take action in my everyday life,” said Tinneesia. “I am proud to be a Girl Scout.”
In addition to her Girl Scout activities, Ms. White-Flores has volunteered for the past seven years with the Montgomery Street Block Association, Nostrand and Rogers Avenue, preparing for their annual block parties and planting flowers with the Citizens Committee of New York. She also volunteers at the food pantry at the Church of St. Marks, where she has received an award from the church’s Intergenerational Task Force Committee for service within the church and the community. During the summer, she volunteered at the Afro-American Educational Center in Jamaica, Queens, and most recently in Red Hook, Brooklyn, in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
We salute Tinneesia White Flores for her service to her community, and wish her continued success in all of our endeavors.
