SENATOR MARCHIONE HONORS RACHAEL MURRAY, THE UPSTATE NEW YORK CHAPTER OF THE LEUKEMIA AND LYMPHOMA SOCIETY’S 2013 “GIRL OF THE YEAR”
Senator Kathleen A. Marchione (R,C-Halfmoon) (pictured right) recently met with and honored Rachael Murray (pictured left), the Upstate New York Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s 2013 “Girl of the Year.” Ms. Murray is a senior at Tamarac High School who was diagnosed with Stage 2A+ Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in August of 2012. Throughout the many tests, treatments and procedures, Ms. Murray’s courage, positive attitude and bravery never wavered. Ms. Murray faced cancer head-on and did not let it define her; each day she is gaining more energy and stamina, and has been able to return to school, diving and snowboarding. In her role as the 2013 Girl of the Year, Ms. Murray serves as an inspiration for local Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Man and Woman of the Year candidates to raise awareness and monetary contributions with the hope to find a cure for all blood cancers. To honor Ms. Murray, Senator Marchione sponsored a bi-partisan legislative resolution, J.1324, commemorating Ms. Murray’s character, courage and inspirational achievements. The resolution was passed unanimously during Monday’s Senate Session.
