In recognition of her extraordinary commitment to individuals with developmental disabilities and the arts, Nozomi Williams of Geneva was among the outstanding women from across New York State who were honored at the 2013 "Women of Distinction" ceremony held at the State Capitol. Nozomi, who leads the Williams Family Foundation, was nominated for this honor by State Senator Mike Nozzolio.
"It is an honor to present this important recognition to Nozomi Williams. Her dedication, commitment and extraordinary service has made a tremendous positive impact on children and families throughout the Finger Lakes region and made our community as a whole a better place to live," said Senator Nozzolio.
Through the help of her family, Nozomi founded the Williams Family Foundation in memory of her late husband and sons, Ichiro (Ichica) and Jiro (Popo).
Nozomi and the Williams Family Foundation have made significant contributions to the arts, education and healthcare in the Finger Lakes region. She has been instrumental in providing educational opportunities for children and adults with developmental disabilities at the Happiness House and was recently recognized as their 2013 "Humanitarian of the Year". Nozomi was also honored as the 2012 "Citizen of the Year" by the Geneva Area Chamber of Commerce for her magnanimous contributions to the Geneva community. Countless organizations throughout the Finger Lakes region have benefited enormously from Nozomi’s generosity.
Launched in 1998, the Women of Distinction program was created to celebrate the rich heritage of notable women from New York's past as well as to honor outstanding women today who have followed their example.
