National Volunteer Week

Senator Tom O'Mara and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano joined the Institute for Human Services and the United Way of the Southern Tier at a public recognition ceremony in Corning this morning to pay tribute to the leaders of several local volunteer organizations and their volunteer members.

Community leaders recognized at this morning's event included, in the photo from left to right: Patrick Rogers, Executive Director of the Institute for Human Services; Michael Keane, Director of the Steuben County Office for the Aging; Mark Edgerly, Chairman of the Chemung Volunteer Action Corps; and Carol Houssock, Director of the Chemung Volunteer Action Corps.  At the far right is Sharon Murphy, a representative from Congressman Tom Reed's office.

This morning's recognition was held as part of the local observance of National Volunteer Week from April 21-27, 2013.

"Our local organizations and their corps of volunteers make all the difference in our communities through their commitment to so many good causes, their amazing sense of civic duty, and their selfless contributions of time, energy and compassion," Senator O'Mara and Assemblyman Palmesano said in a joint statement.
