January 19, 2014
On January 17th, Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins attended a press conference to show her support for the Hudson River Greenway Link Project. At the press conference, U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer announced the completion of the Project study, and the next steps he plans to take in pursuit of the development of the “bicycle and pedestrian-friendly” pathway along the Hudson River which would connect the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway with the Old Croton Aqueduct in Yonkers. The goal of the pathway is to create “a continuous greenway for cyclists, pedestrians and commuters while “transforming Westchester waterfront, boosting recreation, and bringing more economic activity in the region”.
Senator Stewart-Cousins praised Senator Schumer's leadership in moving the project forward and said once completed, it will provide greater access to the beautiful riverfront of Yonkers, offer additional recreational space for residents and spur the local economy by attracting people to Yonkers.
The next step is to collect funding for the pathway, and Senator Schumer has pledged to find federal dollars to bring the project to fruition.
