(White Plains - October 18th) Senator Stewart-Cousins spoke at the National Association of University Women 64th Annual Northeast Sectional Conference Awards Banquet about her rise to become the first African-American woman to preside over the New York State Senate. The NUAW is a community based women’s organization founded in Washington, DC in 1910. The mission of NAUW is to serve women, youth, and the disadvantaged in our communities and in developing countries by strategically partnering with allied organizations to address educational issues and advance the status of women’s issues. NAUW’s national focus targets: 1) Education, 2) Literacy, 3) Scholarship and 4) National & International Affairs.
