State Delegation Calls on MTA/Metro-North to Include White Plains Train Station in 5-Year Capital Plan

(White Plains - September 18th) Senator Stewart-Cousins joined the three other members of the state delegation representing White Plains (Senator George Latimer, and Assemblymembers Amy Paulin and David Buchwald), along with Mayor Thomas Roach, Congresswoman Nita Lowey's representative, and Veronica Vanderpool of the Tri-State Transportation Campaign at the Metro-North train station. Collectively, they asked the MTA/Metro-North to include an upgrade to this facility as part of the 5-year Capital Plan. The station services approximately 21,000 commuters on a daily basis, not only the Senator's constituents in White Plains, but also reverse commuters from Manhattan coming to the region for work. This station figures prominently into mass transit needs related to the Tappan Zee Bridge replacement, and by 2018, will serve even more commuters than it already does. It is also a key part of the area's economic growth.

With Senator Stewart-Cousins and other legislators support, White Plains received a $1 million grant from the Regional Economic Development Council to study improvements for the train station and bus rapid transit hub.
