My Resolution Honoring the Memory of Former Senator Catherine Abate

June 3, 2014
On June 3, the New York Senate passed a resolution I introduced mourning the death of former Senator Catherine Abate, who dedicated her life and career to public service. Prior to being elected to represent New York’s 27th Senate District, Catherine was an attorney and director of training at the Legal Aid Society in New York City; Executive Deputy Commissioner of the New York State Division of Human Rights and Chair of the New York State Crime Victims Board under Governor Mario Cuomo; and Commissioner of Probation and Correction under Mayor David Dinkins. After her tenure in Albany, she made significant and lasting contributions in the area of public health as President and CEO of Community Healthcare Network. Catherine was a highly-esteemed public servant who was a friend and mentor to many, including me. I was proud to honor Catherine’s diverse and far-reaching public service career today on the Senate floor. Please find the text of the resolution honoring Catherine here.
