New “Combat Heroin” Campaign Continues Fight Against Heroin and Opioid Abuse

Heroin and opioid abuse has been a terrible scourge in our communities.
We took action in the State Senate this year to tackle the problem, forming an active task force, holding 18 heavily productive forums across the state, and passing a comprehensive package of legislation to protect our communities and families.
One of the results of our efforts is a new "Combat Heroin" website with information on the risks of heroin and prescription opioid abuse, the signs of addiction, and resources available to help those struggling with addiction.
In addition to the new website, the “Combat Heroin” campaign will feature PSAs and social media awareness efforts to reach parents, adults, and young people in need of help and information about heroin and opioid abuse.
At the forum I hosted with the Seneca Nation of Indians in Irving, New York, dozens of experts, parents, individuals in recovery, law enforcement, and concerned citizens came together to give their perspective and voice their concerns. Their moving testimonies were the driving force behind what we have accomplished this year.
I will continue my efforts to help protect our communities from the terrible effects of drug abuse. By working together, I am confident that we can save lives and prevent countless tragedies.
Sincerely,
Catharine M. Young
