Queens, NY (April 9, 2014) – Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. joined city and state elected officials in commending Mayor Bill de Blasio for his efforts in extending the service of the Rockaway Ferry, but still made clear the community needs a permanent ferry service.
“Hundreds of thousands of passengers have crossed these waters on the Rockaway Ferry since its inception in 2012,” Senator Addabbo said. “That in itself should be reason enough to make this service permanent – the community has very clearly shown it’s a valuable and needed resource.”
When Sandy devastated the Rockaways, ferry service became a vital piece of the recovery process. This is the fourth extension of its service, and with summer approaching, ridership will not slow down.
“This reliable public transportation has allowed the working community and everyday residents reach both Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan faster than ever before,” Senator Addabbo said. “It’s time to make this a permanent service.”
