Adjoa Esinam Gzifa, a native New Yorker, is Director of The Workforce Education Center, Division of Adult and Continuing Education, at LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City. She is also an adjunct lecturer at York College.
As an educator, Ms. Gzifa is committed to providing quality education for all youth programs under her supervision. A strong advocate in her community, she is actively involved with the Summer Youth Employment Program, which provides summer employment to approximately 1,700 youth. She believes strongly that youth are the future and that they should be given every opportunity to grow and be productive citizens.
Ms. Gzifa has served her community in many capacities, including as: Chairperson of Community Board 12 in Jamaica, Queens; Chairperson of the New York City Employment and Training Coalitions Youth Committee; board member of Neighborhood Housing Services of Jamaica and lifetime member of the York College Alumni Association. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Epsilon Pi Omega Chapter, and was inducted into the Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society in October 2006.
In addition, Ms. Gzifa served as President of York College Alumni, Inc., is a member of the Queens General Assembly, an appointee to the Public Advocate’s Civic Leader Board, on the Board of Directors of the New York Association of Training and Employment Professionals and a member of NYC CERT.
Ms. Gzifa is the recipient of numerous awards, including: the National Association of Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) Distinguished Alumna Award; York College Alumni Distinguished Alumna Award; Heroic Women’s Award; The Guy R. Brewer Democratic Club, Community Service Award; National Association of University Women, Long Island Branch; Hilda A. Davis Award; and the National Association of Negro Women, Educator’s Award.
