(Queens, NY) Sunday, State Sen. Tony Avella joined Catskill Mountainkeeper and other "fracktivist" groups at the People's Climate March.
A long-time leader against hydraulic fracturing ("hydrofracking") in the Senate, Sen. Avella stated, “Although New York has taken significant steps to cut down its carbon pollution, more action must be taken to promote and invest in clean energy within our State. With the climate changing at an alarming rate, it is long overdue for the State Legislature to enact meaningful reform in support of solar and wind power production.”
Sen. Avella currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Environmental Conservation Committee and is the author of several bills that call for heightened safety and sustainability standards as well as an outright ban on hydrofracking in New York State.
The People’s Climate March was attended by an estimated 1,500 activist groups and 310,000 supporters.
