New York State has launched a couple of new tools that will make finding information about tourism and tourism history easier than ever.

Thousands of NYS attractions and events, including Path through History and Taste NY locations, are now available at the touch of a button thanks to the new, free I LOVE NEW YORK mobile app launched in January to promote New York State tourism.

A new interactive, web-based tool called the Cultural Resource Information System (CRIS) offers the public convenient and extensive access to the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation’s (State Parks) historic records. CRIS is a direct pathway to more than 1.5 million pages of documents collected by State Parks’ Division for Historic Preservation since 1966. These now scanned documents include more than 6,000 nominations for historic resources listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places, an extensive collection of building and archeological inventory forms, historic survey reports, and a wide variety of other data from the Division’s collection.

Tractor Safety Course

The Madison County Tractor Safety Course is starting next Monday. The first session will be on February 23, 2015 at Morrisville State College, Marshall Hall, Ag. Mechanics Shop and Classroom from 6:00-9:00 p.m. For more information, visit the Madison County Cornell Cooperative Extension website.

New Plastic Bag Recycling Options

Effective March 1, 2015, New York State residents can bring other film plastics such as newspaper bags, dry cleaning bags, and shrink wrap to their retail outlet for recycling as well as plastic bags. Residents may also take them to a retail store that accepts plastic bags.

The plastic retail bag recycling act has been in effect in New York State since January 1, 2009. The law requires most retail stores to collect and recycle plastic shopping bags. Stores are required to allow the use of reusable shopping bags and make them available to their customers for purchase.
