Sen. Valesky sponsored a bill to designate a portion of Route 481 as the "Deputy Sheriff Glenn Searles Memorial Bridge." The bridge spans the Thruway between exits 5W and 6. In 2003, Deputy Sheriff Searles was struck and killed by a vehicle on I-481 while attempting to assist a stranded motorist in a snowstorm. Searles' service to the community and putting others before himself was well noted. This designation will serve to pay tribute to a man who lost his life doing what he loved, helping others in his community. On September 3, Governor Cuomo signed this legislation into law.
