Senator Farley noted this week, Sept. 20th - 26th, is National Farm Safety and Health Week. It serves as a time to recognize the hard work, diligence, and sacrifices of our farmers. Agriculture continues to be one of our State's most important industries, he said. This year, the New York State Legislature added funding for several research, marketing and educational programs which assist our farmers and support our rural economies. New initiatives were funded to help connect consumers with locally-produced products, such as developing farm-to-market hubs and bringing more locally-produced fruits and vegetables to low-income seniors. In addition, the Legislature passed a bill to encourage and expand the availability of farmers' markets.
