(Brooklyn, NY – March 6, 2015) Senator Hamilton partnered with Workforce1 to host a Career Development Workshop at St. Francis de Sales School for the Deaf last night. Despite the snowstorm earlier in the day, dozens of community residents turned out to hear about opportunities to develop their skills, job opportunities on offer throughout New York City, and ways to sharpen their resumes or interviewing skills. Workshop participants were job seekers from a variety of fields including law, marketing, nursing, security, social services, and information technology.
Senator Hamilton spoke about the need to increase the minimum wage and ways to support the community in developing skills. Speaking of the Career Development Workshop, Senator Hamilton said, “This is ground zero for getting viable jobs – not just any job – viable jobs. ”
The Workforce1 presenters, Anthony Hernandez and Daniel Nisbett, delivered presentations about getting to the next step in the job search, whether that next step was improving their resume, honing their interviewing skills, or assisting with job placement. Workforce1 presenters also spoke about the track record the group has placing job seekers and working with employers such as the Barclays Center and the Kings Theatre.
