Syracuse University College of Law has opened the first comprehensive veterans legal clinic in New York state, providing free legal assistance to veterans facing issues relateed to their veteran and military status.
The Veterans Legal Clinic officially opened on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, with a special event at Dineen Hall. Syracuse Law alumni Tom Caruso, L’14, and Josh Keefe, L’14, who are pictured with Senator John A. DeFrancisco, helped create the clinic. Their efforts began as first year law students, when they met and founded the student group VISION (Veterans Issues, Support Initiative and Outreach Network) and also created Valor Day where veterans can obtain a range of free professional services.
The Veterans Legal Clinic at SU has been supported with public grants secured by State Senator John A. DeFrancisco and the Onondaga County Legislature, as well as numerous private donations.
