New York State Senator Michael Venditto, (R, C, I- Massapequa) joined with the President of the LIRR, Patrick Nowakowski, Senator Kemp Hannon, Assemblyman Joseph Saladino and Thomas McKevitt and other elected officials to officially cut the ribbon on the reopening of the Massapequa Station following a $20.5 million rehabilitation project.
Senator Venditto also had the opportunity to tour and get a first hand look at many of the station improvements, including the work of artist Peter Drake, a Long Island native. Drake painted scenes and images of an earlier time which were then transformed into a series of 17 laminated glass windows enclosing the waiting room and located above the stairways.
“The Massapequa LIRR Train Station is a vital link between many members of our community and New York City,” said Senator Michael Venditto. “I am pleased that we could all work together to secure funding and bring an investment to the Massapequa community of over $20 million. The new improvements have transformed the Massapequa Train Station into a modern and safe transportation facility that we can be proud of," concluded Senator Venditto.
