New York State Senator Michael Venditto (R, C, I- Massapequa) recently congratulated Richard Begandy who was selected as a Nassau County Senior Citizen of the Year by the New York State Office of the Aging. Senator Venditto is pictured above with Richard Begandy at the awards ceremony in Albany on May 5th.

He is a veteran of two service branches and has been Commander of VFW Post 7763, in Massapequa Park since 2004. He was a member of US Marine Corps 1st Division, and Operations/Plant Manager and Warehouse/Traffic Manager in the US Navy from 1954-1958. He has been married for 30 years to his lovely wife, Vivian.

Mr. Begandy was instrumental in planning, conception & fruition of Massapequa Park Veterans & Gold Star Mothers monument. He oversees and speaks at the annual Massapequa Park Korean War Anniversary Ceremony. He also promotes Americanism, especially to youth, and honors our service men, women, and veterans in many ceremonies conducted by schools in and around Nassau County. Richard also visits and partakes in events for veterans, and enjoys handing out clothing as well as personal items to residents of the Northport Medical Center.

Mr. Begandy strives to do what he can for his community, the VFW, and for our military veterans and families. His greatest reward is knowing that he has helped our youth by instilling pride in our country, appreciation for our freedoms, and an understanding for the need to care for all our veterans.
